"DPBA California Coastal Commission Petition Letter"

With the up coming California Coastal Commission hearings on City of Dana Point LCP Amendment No. DPT-MAJ-1-08, also known as the Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Plan, we’ve continued putting in some long hours recently, working hard behind the scenes and meeting with the Coastal Commission staff in Long Beach, the Department of Boating and Waterways, The City of Dana Point and Brad Gross and his team at OC DPH.

Regardless, we continue meeting with Brad Gross to discuss our detailed proposal for an alternative land use design for Planning Area One. We published a nine page report to OC DPH as well as The City of Dana Point and California Coastal Commission staff, with a programmatic design (government jargon – means before and after AutoCAD drawings) and business case. As you‘ve probably heard, the current LCPA specifies a new parking structure and new marine retail store to be located within areas today occupied by dedicated launch ramp parking and dry boat storage. The locations proposed in the LCPA for these two buildings would also take away most of the existing dedicated slip renter parking near the Commercial Core, from H Dock all the way to Dana Wharf. So this is a critical boater issue for several reasons.

What are the other issues beyond commercial core land use that must be addressed within the proposed LCPA to make it truly “boater friendly”?

How can you as an individual boater make sure that your voice is heard? One highly effective way is to step up and add your name to the Dana Point Boaters Petition. It takes only a few minutes max and you’ll come away with a clear understanding of 11 key boater concerns.

1. Pick up a paper copy of the petition flyer at one of the various public literature display locations within the harbor. Then fill it out, fold, stamp and mail it to the address on the back.

2. Even better, click the link below and save 42 cents postage

Either way, we’ll handle the legwork, to see to it that your petition is delivered and given full consideration by the California Coastal Commission.
