10.All the decisions have been made; it is
too late to effect change.
While many
decisions have been made they have NOT been
approved.
Your DPBA is actively working to effect positive
change that will replace bad decisions with excellent
alternatives.
9. I'd don't
have time for this, I came down to the harbor to go
______ (fill in blank: fishing, sailing, motoring,
canoeing, day dreaming, napping,
etc.)
Understood! We all live busy
and complicated lives and choose to make recreational
boating a key element that for many preserves mental
health.
However, we need your help to maintain Dana Point
Harbor. We
need 10 minutes of your time to fill out the membership
application, 20 minutes to join the Yahoo Group, five
minutes to ask to be added to the Boaters Blast list and
25 minutes to take the survey. Surely your
harbor is worth one hour of your time.
8. I joined
the Yahoo Group - I'm already a
member.
Thanks,
you're on your way. There are lots
of informative files, links, polls and emails to help
you understand the issues facing Dana Point Harbor
Boaters. If
you have not filled out a blue membership paper form or
electronic form at www.DanaPointBoaters.org,
you are not yet a member of DPBA.
7. The
Association is just an insignificantly small group of
vocal boaters.
Just last
week we heard that the Association was claimed to
represent less than 1/10th of 1% of the boaters in Dana
Point Harbor.
While that claim may have been true at the
beginning of the year, it is not true today and severely
underestimates our membership.
6. It will be
years before any changes happen; I have plenty of
time.
NOT
TRUE. Look
around you, millions are already being spent; launch
ramp, changes to parking, landscaping, etc. While the
wheels of government may turn slowly they do turn. Plans that are
getting formulated now only become harder to change
later. For
example, while work may not begin on the docks until the
end of 2008, the DPHD has already started to put in
place the new license and seniority system. Also, after June
15, 2007 there will be no permanent slip assignments
until the reconstruction is complete.
5. I went to
some or all of the DPHD's meetings; no one is going to
listen to us.
It is true
that the DPHD's meetings were not run as work shops with
the intention of eliciting bidirectional
discussion.
While this is frustrating it is not a good reason
to ignore the issues. Indeed, this is exactly why the
Association has been formed. Your Association is
continuing to work with the DPHD with expectations that
ultimately the designs will be modified. There are many
approvals yet to be obtained which are by no means a
slam dunk for the City and County.
4. I receive
emails all the time, I must be a
member.
While you
may be receiving weekly Boaters Blast emails and you may
also be receiving emails from fellow boaters, the press
or the Harbor Department via the Yahoo Group this does
not mean that you are a member of the Dana Point Boaters
Association.
If you have not filled out a blue membership
paper form or electronic form at: www.DanaPointBoaters.org
you are not yet a member of Dana Point Boaters
Association.
3. I'm afraid
I'll be kicked out of the harbor.
On what
basis? Your
association is following the law and all County
regulations. We are operating with a constructive,
collaborative and solution centric approach. Our goal is
to help the City and County develop the very best plan
for the long term.
That said, we are aware that many boaters have
very serious concerns. Consequently, we have developed a
strong privacy policy that can be found posted on the
Yahoo Group site.
2. This won't
affect me, I've been told I'll get to keep my
slip.
Just because you
may think you have a "get out of jail" free card does
not mean you should not be concerned. Are you sure you
are safe? What about your friends? What about your
children?
Grandchildren? Aren't we
glad that our foreboaters didn't use that philosophy
back in the late 60's and early 70's when they provided
leadership to create the"park with boats" that we all
enjoy today? What about the future? If we are going to
spend over $150,000,000 over the next ten years we
should end up with MORE, not less, recreational boating
access in Dana Point Harbor.
1. I'm ok with
rising slip fees, new taxes, back taxes, and being
"right sized" into (out of) the harbor to make room for
a 53% expansion of restaurants and
shops.
Ok you got
us on that one. you probably should not join, unless you
want the discounts that DPBA members receive from some
of the local
vendors.
